Celebrity hairdresser, Jay Birmingham shares the hottest styles you need to know for the new year.
2023 is the year of extremes – think either super long or super short hair. Lots of excessive layering or blunt one length cuts. Feathered bangs or long face framing pieces.

Here’s Jay Birmingham’s top trends –

The Bob
Without surprise, the bob is back for 2023. It’s a cult classic style that we see popular year after year. But 2023 is all about the return of the true bob. Jaw length hair with ends that sit slightly turned under the jaw line – as the bob was always intended.

XXL Length
Since lockdown, we have seen hair becoming progressively longer overall. This is due to lots of people having the time to grow their hair out during the pandemic and sticking with the length since then. Whether you add soft layers to give movement or opt for a blunt cut for thickness, XXL hair is here to stay.

That 70’s Style
Think rounded corner, soft, rounded bangs and XXL volume created with lots of layering. The 70’s are making a comeback in the best possible way for 2023. Think of the classic shag style that was on trend throughout 2022 and imagine an update on that cool girl shape.

The Blowout
Popular during 2022, the glam girl blow out aesthetic is not going anywhere in 2023. Think volume, layers, bouncy curls and lots of movement to achieve this on-trend look.
