Inspired by the late Princess Diana, whose iconic hairstyle has been brought back to life thanks to Emma Corrin in The Crown, the Modern Diana Bob is going to be big this season.

Hairdressing royalty Andrew Barton talks us through this modern classic.

“Diana’s iconic hair was a part bob, part wedge that has never lost its appeal.  It’s still a modern day salon favourite for women that want a relatively low maintenance shorter hair cut without feeling cropped.

“The technical term for the look is called graduation (ask your hairdresser) and is used through the sides and back of the hair to create lift and a sweeping effect that is easily pushed back away from the face.

“The top sections then have gentle layers to accentuate the movement and give the feeling of ‘lifted’ hair. I find clients often use this term to describe how they want their hair to feel instead of it ‘pulling them down’.

“To create this look I used a razor to cut the layers and then blow-dried using my hands, rather than a brush, to achieve a natural effect.

“I’m a great fan of styling products like mousse that give the hair energy as well hold and finally I fixed the hair with a texture spray for a lightweight separated effect.”

“Adding playful pink blush tones also helps to bring the look bang up to date.”
