Munroe Bergdorf’s Glossy Waves by Jay Birmingham for Vogue World

by Hair Magazine

It’s Jay Birmingham, and I’m thrilled to share the inside scoop on the beautiful hair look I achieved for the talented Monroe Bergdorf’s glossy waves at Vogue World. We knew we wanted to turn heads so we had to figure out how to do this.

For Munroe’s appearance, we decided to go bold with long, dark glossy waves. The choice was deliberate – a nod to timeless elegance with a contemporary twist. The deep, luxurious tones of Munroe’s hair against the stark black feathers of her outfit, created a synergy that drew attention without overpowering the intricate details.

Preparation is key when creating a look that needs to look good all night, especially when walking outside. I washed Munroe’s hair and used a professional smoothing hair mask to ensure her hair is kept in place throughout the night. Blow-drying Monroe’s hair, ensuring a sleek and smooth foundation. As Munroe has natural curly hair, I used Color Wow Dream Coat to tame and smooth the curls, ensuring a frizz free look.

I added Beauty Works DHS clip ins and then began curling the ends of the hair using a small barrel to create the sleek curls. Taking one section of hair at a time and wrapping it around the curling wand, starting from mid-length of the hair. Holding the hair around the barrel for a few seconds and then releasing. I repeated this process for all sections of the hair. After curling each section, I gently combed through the curls with a wide-toothed comb to loosen them up and create sleek curls.

A small amount of lightweight curl-enhancing cream was applied to enhance sleekness and longevity of the style. For a final touch, I ran a hair oil through the ends of the curls to add shine and tame any frizz. I held the curls with clips to keep the hair in position while Munroe finished getting ready.
