It’s official – longer, swept-back styles are here to stay. Effortless, casual or smart, it offers a smorgasbord of styling options, and is a celebrity favourite. Jake Gyllenhaal, Keanu Reeves and Orlando Bloom are all fans of the look, which can be worn casual over the weekend and smarter for those midweek zoom calls.
“The key to keeping this style looking healthy, natural and relaxed are the products you use,” explains Joe Mills, session stylist and owner of Joe and Co, London. “It’s tempting to leave longer hair longer between appointments, but the key to this look is the condition of the hair. So regular trims are essential to get rid of split and dry ends.”
Joe takes us through steps to get the look– Jake Gyllenhaal
- Firstly look at the shampoo you use, make sure it’s not too harsh and stripping natural oils. I’d highly recommend Triumph & Disaster’s Acacia and Gypsophila Shampoo rrp £24.99/500ml which will remove product build up and leave it feeling fresh and squeaky clean.
- The right conditioner is just as important so choose one to nourish the hair and replace any lost moisture in the hair and scalp. This will also leave hair with a natural shine and volume.
- To style your hair, choose a smoothing product such as Kevin.Murphy Motion Lotion styling cream rrp £23/150ml. Take a 2p-sized dollop and smooth through the hair. Then use a Denman brush and a hairdryer to smooth it through, keeping the hair close to the head and flatten it down. Create a parting on whichever side your hair falls and use the brush to push it over and back.
- Then, add a little grooming cream for added hold and weight and you’re good to go!
