As a member of One Direction, the spotlight rarely fell on Niall Horan – but when he launched his solo career, everyone suddenly took notice.   Not only did he have a great voice, but his hair and style were also on point.  Suddenly we had a breakout star who wasn’t afraid to try new styles both in fashion and in hair.

Session stylist and barber Joe Mills says it’s his natural texture that gives his styling so much versatility.  “Niall’s hair has a great wave through the top which can be smoothed into a quiff or left with lots of texture.   To get the look, speak to your barber for a short back and sides keeping the length through the top.   Don’t go too short through the sides – you want some hair to give a nice outline and gradually fade into the longer lengths through the top.  Leaving a little bit of extra length through the front will ensure you can build the shape when styling into a quiff.

“To create a quiff, blow-dry the hair on a medium heat and use a vent brush such as the Denman Original Styler to create volume through the roots.  Continue this through the front right through to the crown. Once it’s dry, gently rake a pomade through for hold.

“To create a textured finish, apply a little sea salt spray through the top and encourage the natural texture.   Leave to dry and mould into shape.”
