One of the biggest hair trends in 2021 is the Modern Shag. This hairstyle has a very lived in and natural feel and works best worn very relaxed with you embracing your hair’s natural texture.
Suzie McGill @ Rainbow Room International says: “This look works best with added in texture and layered, giving the hairstyle a choppy finish to modernise the look. Adding a fringe to this look is also a great option, which when taken a bit shorter, adds shape to your hair and gives it an edgier look with a rock star inspired vibe.
“For styling it at home, the key is that this hairstyle looks undone and effortless. Mousses can be used and scrunched into the layers to add texture, volume and hold and finishing products such as volumising sprays like sea salt sprays can be used and scrunched into the hair whether it’s damp or dry to add further texture, enhance volume and add grit to the hair. The key with this look is to not overdo it with the hair products, as you want the overall finish to still look very soft and natural and as though little to no product has been used.”
Sean Dawson @adamreedlondon says: “The shag has got to be one of my most favourite ever hairstyles – suits most hair types to be honest and totally injects a new lease of life into those locks, whilst doing so – brings your hair right bang up to date! Its low maintenance, dead sexy and is the style to be worn right now.”
Desmond Murray at Atherton Cox says: “I’m welcoming back the shag with open arms – always such a cool effortless style and so easy to maintain. Most of my clients haircuts have naturally grown into this style during lockdown to be honest – and the majority are embracing their new length – will encourage them to keep the length whilst maintaining shape and condition with regular trims – once I’m back on the beat”.
